Caring For Baby Fish
Have your fish had offspring and you don’t know what to do? Most fish are born able to swim, eat, and take care of themselves.
- Fish in the cichlid family often take care of their babies. Just leave them with the parents. Guppies, Platies, Swordtails, and Mollies have their young born alive but don’t take care of them.
- For fish that don’t take care of their babies, it’s recommended that you catch them and keep them in a separate tank. If you don’t have the space, provided lots of plants so the offspring can hide and not get eaten.
- Feeding: many baby fish (guppies, platies, mollies, swordtails) can eat regular dry fish food as long as you crush it so that it’s small enough for them to swallow. Others(killifish) need live food such as brine shrimp, vinegar eels, infusoria, or microworms.
